Life Lessons from An Innovator

“You can’t connect the dots looking forward. You can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.”

– Steve Jobs

Yesterday was the anniversary of Steve Jobs’ death so I thought it was only fitting to do a mini tribute to one of the greatest innovators of our time.

Every time I watch it I am moved by Steve Jobs’ open, revealing and emotional speech. It’s poignant and powerful and purposeful. Not only has he achieved extraordinary success from a business perspective, he has found a way to articulate the essence of his life’s journey is an elegant and moving way.

As someone who is always searching for an answer or asking myself what it all means, this provided the most clear answer about life: You will never have the answers moving forward. The answers will only be revealed to you looking backwards. So stop trying to figure life out and simply focus on taking steps towards greater fulfillment.

He talks about the importance of finding what you love to do. If you haven’t found it then keep looking. Too many people are ok with staying where they are because the risk of the unknown is scary. Get comfortable with the unknown because uncertainty and change are two never ending constants in our lives.

I encourage you to take 15 minutes out of your day to listen to this speech. It’s one of my favorites.
